The excess gas thing does sort of lead away from the ulcer theory a bit. Definitely definitely need to log what foods you're eating and try switching some things in and out of your diet. It's a very complex chemical system to digest foods and since you're vegetarian that might have caused some off-balance. The sensation of bloat still has me thinking this sounds like an ulcer. For instance, things like taking too much vitamin C can cause really painful cramping. If that stops the pain after a few minutes, I'd wager it's an ulcer and you need to tell your doctor about it.Īlso, what supplements are you taking? There are all kinds of interactions that could happen. If you start getting the pains even when you haven't eaten, try drinking like 16 to 24 ounces of water to see if that stops the pain. The number one thing to do (besides consulting a physician) is look carefully at what you're eating and write a diary of what foods might be related to it or how soon after you eat or not that it happens. There are a few angles you can take on this. Vegetarian diets are necessarily more "rough" on the stomach, so if it's grinding on the food and there's a sore in your stomach (an ulcer) that's going to hurt and the muscles in your abdomen will start cramping up as a natural response. A lot of times you'll start burping before your stomach starts emptying contents out into the small intestines, which may be why you get that connection that burping helps. The burping/stomach acid connection does sound at least somewhat reasonable and is probably the first thing to pursue. If not, and they suggested stomach acid then you need to see another doctor. I'd be surprised if your doctor didn't already do an h. That said, if it really is related to your stomach then it sounds like it might be an ulcer, which is quite common and is easily treatable. If it's down below your stomach like by your belly button or below, then you should probably get a full colonoscopy. Lower abdomen? How lower? You said burping helps, which would/should be related to your stomach, which is upper abdomen. >!insert spoiler here!< Other subreddits you might like: some Mod posts Serious posts Megathread Breaking news Unfilter Please use spoiler tags to hide spoilers.
